Overview of Project Content and Milestones
Content management (CM) and digital asset management (DAM) systems
are a fundamental building block of large software systems, as they
allow ease cataloguing, storage and retrieval of digital assets,
such as photographs, graphics, and videos. The concept and implementation
of DAMs is not new, however, the majority base their architecture
in lengthy and complicated infrastructures, which makes it difficult
to extend. Microsoft® recently launched SharePoint Server 2007,
an integrated suite of server capabilities with comprehensive content
management, enterprise search, and information-sharing capabilities.
SharePoint Server 2007 provides an excellent middleware for DAMs
with extended capabilities.

The Importance of the Project
SharePoint Server 2007 is a promising software solution for enterprise
companies that need a central management point to maintain versioning,
backups, and get a reach set of services. The student who will undertake
this project will gain a good insight in business processes, and
asset management.
The Key Challenge(s) to be Overcome:
SharePoint server 2007 and MS .net framework are well-documented
with enormous amounts of information publicly available. However,
the student will need to thoroughly understand their architecture
to build the DAM.
