Overview of Project Content and Milestones

Microsoft® recently launched SharePoint Server 2007®, an integrated suite of server capabilities with comprehensive content management, enterprise search, and information-sharing capabilities. SharePoint Server 2007 provides an excellent middleware for web-based software systems, especially Intranets. It simplifies the way in which people within an organisation work together, and connects people with similar skills, knowledge and project experience. Out of the box SharePoint features include: Intranet Site Templates; Site Management; Social Networking; Privacy Control; Document Versioning and Authorisation; Real-time Communication; User Profiles, and so on.

The Importance of the Project

SharePoint Server 2007 is a promising software solution for enterprise companies that need a central management point to maintain versioning, backups, real-time communication, privacy control, and so on. The student who will undertake this project will gain a good insight in business processes, and enterprise-wide Intranets.

The Key Challenge(s) to be Overcome:

SharePoint server 2007 and MS .net framework are well-documented with enormous amounts of information publicly available. However, the student will need to thoroughly understand their architecture to build the Intranet.
