Mobile IP
Researchers: I.Romhdani
Due to the fast development of wireless and mobile technologies, applications
begun to evolve from demanding simple IP connectivity to seamless mobility where
users can move from one attachment point to another without session interruption.
A nomadic user who is equipped with smart and small laptop and personal data
devices with wireless Internet connectivity requires working while moving from
one location to another. Although the original Internet was designed to carry
out point-to-point IP traffic, there is an increasing need for multipoint communications
(IP multicast) between different parties. Internet users need today to work
in a group and to share data, audio and video information between them in a
real time manner. Examples of such applications include video-conferencing,
distance learning, large-scale content distribution, distributed computing,
TV diffusion, and police, fireman and military coordination. Therefore, the
multiparty nature of new applications represents new challenges to be addressed
for mobile users and moving networks, in which a whole network changes its point
of attachment. The primary challenge is how to support scalable IP multicast
connectivity while providing a seamless mobility with minimum delay and packet
loss for senders and receivers. To address these issues and propose a scalable
architecture, new on-going projects will start soon. Recent papers include:
